A very good friend of mine had a ‘special’ birthday this month, and last night I got to hand over the quilt I had made for her.

Ruth's Birthday Quilt

This is a strip pieced quilt, made in Amy Butler fabrics (mostly Soul Blossoms).

I love this type of piecing, and it’s a great pattern for using up leftover binding and Jelly Roll strips too! (see the free tutorial for my scrappy version here).

A friend of mine long arm quilted it.  I always think that when a quilt is quilted, that’s when the fabrics just seem to come to life!

The backing is Tilda, and the navy and white stripe binding is from a collection called England Swings (my birthday friend is English!).

I love how bright and cheery this quilt is, and it totally reflects my lovely friend’s bright and cheery personality!

I’m happy to report that she loved it! Yay!

Happy sewing!
